June 1, 2008:
Art in the Garden runs Sunday, June 1 (9 - 6pm) at the Canadian
Tire Garden Centre, 2560 Princess St at Gardiners Rd across the the Catarqui
Town Centre. Art Show, silent action, BBQ lunch and craft sale in the Garden
Centre at Canadian Tire for the Artrageous Studio Arts Program from Second
Chance (Queen Elizabeth Community Education Centre). Students and staff
will be present to discuss the program and the other courses offered at
Second Chance, an alternative high school for at-risk teens and returning
adults who are working toward grade 12 diplomas. Come and celebrate the
artists' efforts and buy your garden plants and supplies at the same time!

They say that art can change the world, and in this case, it’s really
true. The Girls Inc.12th Annual Art Auction, June 5, 2008 helps all girls
to be strong, smart and bold! Taking place at St. Lawrence College, Davies
Hall, the event includes live and silent auctions of art, crafts and special
gift packages, as well as terrific items created with love by member girls
and volunteers. The doors open at 6:00 p.m. All art is donated by regional
artists and will be sold to provide critical program funding for young
women in our community. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door
and are available at all Unity Savings and Credit Union locations or by
calling the Girls Inc. office at (613) 542-9202. For more information about

starting at 10am. Outdoor art show and sale set among picturesque ruins
of a 19th century mill beside rapids of Napanee River. Features local artists
showcasing juried-quality paintings, sculpture, mosaic tile, fibre, wood,

Canada's foremost musicians and writers will
perform at the Artists for Bob Lovelace benefit on Saturday, June 14th
at Sydenham St. United Church, 82 Sydenham Street at 7:00 pm including
Bruce Cockburn, Michael Ondaatje, Susan Aglukark, David Francey, Jenny
Whiteley, Steven Heighton, Joey Wright, Terry Tufts, Unity and the Algonquin
Drummers. Bob Lovelace is the father, retired chief of the Ardoch Algonquin
First Nation and Queen's University professor, who has been imprisoned
for his peaceful opposition to uranium mining in North Frontenac. All proceeds
from the benefit concert will go to Bob Lovelace through a trust fund established
for him by OPIRG Kingston. $30.00 advanced tickets (unreserved seating)
and $100.00 Supporter Package (limited number, preferred seating) includes
a compilation CD and a pass to the artist after-show party. Tickets available
at many Downtown Kingston businesses.
June 21, 2008:
"Kingston's Day for Kids!" Come out to the Sunnyside Children's Foundation's
16th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic at Lake Ontario Park, a special day for children
and families (as well as their bears!) A full day of activities and entertainment,
including an electric train ride, face painting, cookie decorating, and
more from 9:30am to 3:00pm. Admission to the picnic is $3.00 per child.
