The Canadian Liver Foundation’s Eastern Ontario
Chapters have come together on a very popular event, called “What a Girl
Wants” at Zorbas Banquet Facility, 1474 Bath Rd. What a Girl Wants is for
the women “Care Givers” within a specific age group. What a Girl Wants
is a key fundraiser for the Eastern Ontario Chapters of the Canadian Liver
Foundation and the proceeds raised from this event benefit local awareness
programs and medical research. As liver disease is not a trendy topic
that boasts a celebrity spokesperson or finds itself on the front page
of your newspaper it remains an under profiled issue that is just kind
of “out there” and quite frankly very misunderstood! So with the assistance
of our dedicated volunteers we have found the best way to engage the community
and educate people about the importance of liver health is to be creative.
We like to think that “What a Girl Wants” helps us bring our message, “Liver
Health Begins at Home - Encourage Canadians to make positive lifestyle
choices”. Statistics have shown that the risks of liver diseases among
women are growing, not decreasing, as our lifestyle changes. Our
high fat diets, lack of exercise and non self awareness are contributors
to liver disease. Only through increased understanding and better research
can we hope to reverse that trend. What a Girl Wants provides an excellent
venue for reaching out to our Women in a way that gets them involved on
their terms. Tickets for Dinner/Fashion/Demos and Shopping are $50.00,
only 220 available, Contact the vendors that are a part of the even or
CLF for tickets. www.whatagirlwantskingston.ca.
