The story Gay Aaron, International President told us was that a few years ago a family worked hard to raise money to visit family out west; their car broke down on their vacation. They were disappointed; the money they had left would have to pay for the repairs. So they would have to turn around and go back home. While the father and his family waited for the car to be fixed, they spoke to a stranger and in conversation he mentioned they had saved for this vacation to visit family but since their car broke down it would take all the money they had left to pay for the repairs; so they would have to return home. When the car was finished and the family asked how much they owed; the mechanic  said the bill had been paid and the stranger said to tell the family to have a nice vacation and to pay it back when he could by doing something nice for someone else In need.  (Pay it forward)
