Wheels In Motion is an event held in communities across Canada to raise funds to improve the quality of life of people with spinal cord injury and for research leading to a cure.

4th annual Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion event took place in communities across Canada on Sunday, June 11, 2006. People of all ages and abilities came together to wheel, run or walk to improve the lives of people with spinal cord injury. The 2006 event in Kingston was held at Confederation Basin across from Kingston City Hall. A spinal cord injury can happen to anyone, at anytime. When we participate in a Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion event, we contribute to a new possibility for every man, woman and child who is currently living with SCI and for those who will be injured in the future. Funds raised go toward quality of life needs in the community and research.

Kingston & District Civitan Club 3rd annual Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion was held Sunday June 12 2005.  Rick Hansen signed two Roll For Hope t-shirts which we auctioned off, "Jay on Joe-FM" was our event Emcee, and the previous Saturday we held a successful BBQ at Loblaws.  Civitan President-Elect John Carr established the contracts/pledge forms with our area schools and set-up teams while Civitan Director Edie Emmons was our media contact.

2004 Wheels In Motion 2004 we had a great turnout for our first year running this event. Just over 50 adults, 25 children and 4 teams participated raising about $10,000, one of the largest per person donations in Canada.

Registration started at 9:30 am. The roll started at 11:00 am by our honorary chair Vicki Keith using her swim coach voice. Her husband John Munro led off on a borrowed mountain bike.  After the roll lots of prizes were given away by Civitan Wayne Burch, and hot dogs, fruits and cold drinks were available.

We would like to thank all participants and volunteers for making this a great success. Without you we could not have hosted the event. A special thanks to Laura Hampshire, our Master of Ceremonies from 96.3 JOE FM and Mike Soo for the donating and running the sound system for the event.

Also thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters who donated so generously and a of course a big thank you to our event leader Civitan Peter Horrocks, and Civitan committee members Brian Keast, Art Bostad, Ron Payne, John Carr, Jane Horrocks, Jeanne Anderson, Bruce Baldwin, Wayne Burch and Mark Larabie as well as community members Kelly Wylie, Bill Hatt, Hugh Wylie and Frank Lockington. Through their efforts and guidance, this event went from a good idea to a wonderful reality. Roll For Hope 2004

Thank you to our fantastic volunteers from the Kingston Police Community Volunteers, the St. Lawrence College staff, Scotiabank and certainly the Kingston and District Civitan Club.
