| Fall 2005, Civitan International
awarded Kingston & District Civitan Club with the Junior International
Dance-a-Thon to be carried out by the Limestone City Junior Civitan Club.
Each year a different city/chapter hosts this major event. This year
Junior Civitan members from across Ontario and Alabama, Florida, Virigina,
Georgia, New Mexico, North Carolina and South Carolina were billeted in
family homes leading up to the big night which raised just over $36,000.
Limestone City Junior Civitan Club membership is a great way to get
invovled and meet new friends. It's also an exceptional way of acquiring
the mandatory forty-hours of community involvement activities towards your
Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Helping people and improving communities
of the world are the basic fundamentals of any service work. Whether its
turning an abandoned lot into a playground or buying Christmas presents
for a needy family, the feeling of making a difference is heartfelt.
The Dance-a-thon, supplied by MuchMusic (CHUM Television), was held
at Ongwanda Resource Centre starting at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 11th
and running non-stop until Midnight.. |
Junior Civitans take a special focus
by designating the funds they raise for the Civitan International Foundation.
Their contributions are for the Civitan International Research Center's
Family Assesment Department; a specialized research and diagnostic facility
dedicated to addressing the healthcare issues of those with developmental
disabilities while assisting and educating their families. Through Junior
Civitan International fundraisers like Dance-a-Thon, the Limestone City
Junior Civitan Club are able to raise thousands of dollars each year for
the Civitan International Foundation and the family assesment department
of the Civitan International Research Center it supports.
