Civitan is a volunteer organization (Service Club) Civitan Clubs support people with disabilities through fundraisers and hands on projects. Kingston has donated money to the Kingston Independent Living Centre for their Accessible computer lab. Kingston Civitan has partner with Clothes for Kids for the past 21 years in collecting and distributing 2,500 snowsuits to local children and we support Ontario Special Olympics. Kingston Civitan helped a young mother pay for a guide dog for her autistic child and purchased adapted tricycles for two local children; we donated money towards an all-terrain wheelchair for Community Living. Kingston Civitan supports the Kingston Mission Truck for the homeless.  Each year starting in November Kingston Civitan members organize a fundraiser to Support our Canadian Troops at Christmas time by raising money for Operation Santa Claus…To date our Kingston Club has donated just over $7,000.00 to the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency (CFPSA) the money is sent to Ottawa to help purchase holiday gift packages for our deployed Canadian Troops. Our club has received letters signed by the Brigadier General as well as beautiful framed pictures as a thank you for our support over the past 4 years.

Civitan has clubs in the Greater Napanee, Perth, Smiths Falls, Almonte and Quebec as well as Toronto, London, Burlington etc.  In Toronto, Civitan has a club called the Lung and Heart Transplant club; this club has built condos in Toronto; these condos are rented to people who are on a waiting list for transplant surgery; the condos are close to the Toronto Hospital. Civitan in Canada has a foundation called “Civitan International Foundation of Canada” which supports the Canadian Down Syndrome Society, research and sheltered workshops for the mentally challenged. Civitan International also has a Research Centre, which is located in Birmingham Alabama; this research centre is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to improving lives through brain research and the treatment of developmental disabilities. The Research Centre released its groundbreaking news on the treatment of gliomas, an aggressive form of brain cancer, with a form of scorpion toxin. Civitan clubs around the world has lots to offer everyone. Kingston Civitan supports other local charities such as Community Care Access Centre by donating money to help purchase much needed medical equipment and assistive devises for people living in the Greater Kingston Area.

Kingston Civitan is looking for more volunteers to join our club; volunteers who are inspired to make a difference in our Kingston Community; volunteers’ who can devote 4 hours a month to help make our community a nicer place to live.
