Pet owners: it's time to renew your dog
and cat licences and this year, dog owners who use off-leash dog parks
will need to pick-up a red tag for their dog. Proceeds from the sale of
red tags go to pay for off-leash dog park maintenance. Jan. 1, 2010, is
the deadline to license your pets to receive the pet tags that go on their
collars and make it easier for strangers and animal control officers to
return a lost pet to your home. City Bylaw 2004-144 requires dogs living
in any part of the city, and cats living in the urban area to be licensed
when they are 20 weeks of age or older. Your pet's record - which includes
address, vaccination, tattoos, and other identifying information - is automatically
updated when you renew. Visit the City Hall, Payment Centre, 216 Ontario
St. or the Kingston Humane Society, 1 Binnington Court, and participating
veterinary clinics and pet stores.
