January 11, 2012:
Mayor Mark Gerretsen will join Government House
Leader, Peter Van Loan in marking Sir John A. Macdonald's birthday at the
statue of Canada's first Prime Minister in City Park (at the corner of
King and West streets). Gerretsen will make some remarks at the annual
event which begins at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 11. This year's ceremony
has been organized by Macdonald-enthusiast Arthur Milnes, who is also Commissioner
of the Sir John A. Macdonald Bicentennial Commission. Sir John A.'s 200th
birthday is just three years away. Federal Cabinet Minister Van Loan will
act as emcee at the event which will also include Sir John A. impersonator
Matt Donovan, the annual Sir John A. Limerick contest finalists, a special
Canadian citizenship re-affirmation ceremony, hot chocolate and snacks.

Sustainable Kingston To Hold Community Forum.
David Miller And Community Partners Will Make Presentations. Sustainable
Kingston will hold a day-long Community Forum on the Sustainable Kingston
Plan - the community-built plan to make Kingston Canada's Most Sustainable
City on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Four Points by Sheraton at 285 King St.
E. Those interested in participating can register under the "News &

Registration is $15 until January 15 and $25 after. Organizers are expecting
approximately 200 participants, including individual residents and participants
from businesses, organizations and the public sector.
