“The Astonishing Past of Kingston General Hospital” Walking Tours. From site of the first seat of the United Province of Canada, to charity hospital with a staff of two, to the Christmas fire of 1897, learn the fascinating story of the tumultuous early years of Kingston General Hospital. The Skeleton Park Music Festival is a non-profit music festival in Kingston, Ontario held the first weekend of the summer solstice.  The festival provides venues for showcasing local musicians, in addition to family activities, artisans, and education on the history of Skeleton Park, (McBurney Park, Kingston). With an emphasis on music, this event is an opportunity for the Kingston community to become better acquainted with their leading performing artists. Loving Spoonful is a non-profit organization working to increase access to healthy food for all. We are looking for volunteers to help transport food from grocers/restaurants to agencies that provide emergency meal programs to Kingston’s hungry. KGHistory for Kids: A Memory & Mapping Activity for Young Historians. Suitable for ages 6-12, this 30-minute outdoor memory and mapping activity is a fun way for children to learn about the exciting history of Kingston General Hospital. An eye-opening scavenger hunt includes revelations of plagues, politicians, prisoners, doctors, new immigrants, a nobleman and nurses, and spans nearly 100 years! Combining education, entertainment and exercise, the activity takes place mostly outside, on the picturesque grounds of KGH. Children also peek inside some buildings of two National Historic Sites, including the first parliament building of the Province of Canada and the only remaining Victorian-era operating ampitheatre in the entire country. Working from an activity sheet, kids test their visual observation and chart their course on a map. Tickets: $5 per family. Tour begins at: Museum of Health Care, 32 George Street. June 4, 2011:
Summer Company is funding and training program for Youth Entrepreneurs program delivered by the Entrepreneurship Centre at the Kingston Economic Development Corporation. 20 students, who are returning to school in September will be receiving $3000 to launch and operate their own business this summer. The Launch Party is a chance for our participants to practice their sales pitches, network with each other and the public and get some exposure in the city! We've got all kinds of businesses in operation this year from Social Media Marketing Consultants to Lawn Care Professionals, T-Shirt Designers to Window Cleaners. So come out and learn more about the program and this years participants on June 4th!

The City's draft Urban Forest Management Plan will be presented for public input at an upcoming open house at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 in the Sunnyside Room at Cataraqui Arena, 1030 Sunnyside Road. The draft Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) underlines the importance of urban trees and outlines the steps the City proposes to take to ensure Kingston's urban forest thrives beautifully.

June 23, 2011:
2011 Kingston Jazz Festival Line-up Announced. The Grand Theatre, The Kingston Jazz Society and The Kingston Arts Council are proud to present the Kingston Jazz Festival from June 23 to June 25. This three day festival will feature a selection of the world's best musicians performing at the Grand Theatre, a late-night series at the Mansion, live music on porches and a free afternoon of music and family fun at Confederation Park. Five show Festival passes including five performances at the Grand Theatre and the 10 p.m. shows at The Mansion are $115 plus applicable service charges. There are only 100 of these passes available due to space availability. The three-performance Back to BASSics passes are $99 and $87. The St. George’s Cathedral Summer Concert Series begins on Thursday June 23rd from 12:15pm to 12:50pm with the Cantabile Men's and Women's Choruses, under the direction of Mark Sirett. The Cantabile choristers will present a preview concert of their July tour to England and Scotland in a program of sacred music by Stanford, Vaughan Williams and Durufle, as well as contemporary composers and Canadian folksongs. The Memorial Garden and the Outdoor Aquatic Centre are almost complete and ready to be enjoyed by Kingstonians. The public is invited to attend a brief community ceremony to celebrate the new components at the Memorial Centre at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 24. Mayor Mark Gerretsen, members of Council, members of the Memorial Centre Revitalization Committee, City staff and the public will gather at the splash pad at 303 York St. to celebrate these achievements - and open the pool for the summer. After the community ceremony, the pool will open and the public will enjoy free swimming from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. (capacity: 275).

Get ready to cheer on the athletes in Kingston's first ever Ultra-Triathlon!  Participants run, bike and swim day after day in of Kingston's Kids.  This fund raising challenge in support of 3 organizations that supports Kingston’s children, The YMCA, Child Development Centre and Easter Seals. The swim will be located at the YMCA, 100 Wright Crescent. Cycling will be on the streets through Calvin Park and on stationary bikes at the YMCA. The run will be down Princess St. and up Brock St. All events will begin and end at the Kingston Family YMCA. All monies raised will be divided evenly amongst the three organizations. 

June 25, 2011:
Lace up your shoes and join us in the 2011 Walk for ALS!  The fun takes place in Confederation Park (across from City Hall) in Downtown Kingston on Saturday June 25th.  Registration for the walk begins at 9am with the walk starting at 10am. The WALK for ALS is the signature event of ALS Ontario. This event helps to increase awareness of ALS and to raise money for equipment and support services for people living with ALS, as well as research to find a cure.
