Bottle Tree Productions presents A Tribute to
Patsy Cline at The Wellington Street Theatre, 126 Wellington Street (at
the coirner of Johnson Street). Hannah Smith and Justin Robertson bring
the story of Patsy Cline to life in story and song. Songs that made Patsy
a legend such as 'Crazy', 'Walkin' After Midnight', and 'I Fall to Pieces'
are featured in a story about Patsy and the men in her life. Patsy's career
was cut tragically short at the height of her career by a plane crash.
In Trisha Yearwood's homage to Patsy, she said she was a 'Powerful and
Passionate Singer'. Patsy Cline is regarded as one of the most influential
women in American music. She was the first female singer in country to
cross over into the mainstream. Teamed with Owen Bradley and his lush orchestration
of her songs, Patsy became an icon. Abandoned by her father, when she was
a teenager, Patsy and her mother worked hard to support the family at several
low paying jobs. At the same time, she worked hard to promote herself and
to get singing jobs. Too young to know better, she was soon trapped in
a bad marriage and a disastrous recording contract, that paid her little
more than 2 cents out of every dollar her records made. She also survived
a bad traffic accident that nearly killed her. But a strong will and a
desire to succeed landed her a new recording contract and an accidental
meeting at a dance landed her the love of her life. Directed by Charles
Robertson and Anne Marie Mortensen, this poignant look at Patsy's life
is told by the men in her life as played by Justin Robertson. Rising star;
Hannah Smith 'great voice' Greg Burliuk Kingston Whig Standard, portrays
Patsy in her last concert. Thursday-Saturday May 6th until
May 8th at 8 p.m. May 9th Sunday matinee at 3 pm and from Thursday-Saturday
May 13th-15th at 8 p.m. May 16th Sunday matinee at 3 pm. Tickets are $20

Empty Box Theatre Company presents: VERA. The
show is a musical adaptation of the play by Oscar Wilde. It will run at
Convocation Hall (in Theological Hall, on the Campus of Queen's University),
99 University Avenue on May 20-22 at 7:30pm and May 22 at 2:00pm. Tickets
are $10 general admission. NOTE: The play is not appropriate for children
under twelve due to violence and dark themes. Vera is the story of a young
Russian peasant who rises through the ranks of a revolutionary group (the
Nihilists) in order to avenge her brother’s wrongful banishment to Siberia.
The Nihilists believe that Russia should be a Republic, and will stop at
nothing to ensure it. The show features a very talented cast, a great story
by the ingenious Oscar Wilde and rousing musical numbers by Conor Corrigan
and Keavy Lynch. It's even more Russian than Fiddler on the Roof :)
May 22, 2010:
The Bobby Show! at Wellington Street Theatre,
126 Wellington St., corner of Wellington and Johnson streets. This show
is a tribute to the great 'Bobby' singers of the late 50's, and early 60's.
You'll hear songs originally recorded by Bobby Darin, Bobby Vee, Bobby
Vinton, Bobby Curtola, and other Bobbys from that perhaps more innocent
era of pop music, and stories behind those singers, and their songs. The
songs include Rockin' Robin,My Special Angel, The Night Has A Thousand
Eyes, Fortune Teller, Blue Velvet, Honey, Dream Lover, Mack The Knife,
and many more. Michael Myers, the creator of the show says " I thought
it would be fun to put together a music revue featuring just songs by,
and stories about, the various Bobby singers who come from an overlooked,
and often critically looked down upon period in popular music -the late
50's, through to the early 60's, prior to the British Invasion, and the
arrival of The Beatles. I think some exciting, well crafted, and memorable
music was produced then, by talented singers, and songwriters, including
the Bobby's, and it definitely had, and still has, a big influence on my
performing, and songwriting career." Tim Hallman (music director, keyboards,
vocals), Gary Barratt (drums) and Bob Arlidge (bass) provide the musical
accompaniment as 'The Real Gone Cats'. This show is hot hot hot! Don't
miss The Bobby Show, performed by Michael K. Myers and 'The Real Gone Cats'.
