Joe's MILL is proud to present "Basses Loaded" a concert/workshop featuring four incredible bass players: David Woodhead, Al Parrish, Zak Colbert and Alec Barken. This event happens on Tuesday, October 4th at the Wilson Room, Kingston Public Library (130 Johnson Street). The City of Kingston is hosting a public meeting seeking input on the renovations to the Artillery Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre (APAC) to begin in spring/summer 2012. The public meeting is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, in Memorial Hall at City Hall, 216 Ontario St.

Kingston Fire & Rescue is hosting two open houses featuring pancake breakfasts, station tours, and public education displays to celebrate Fire Prevention Week, October 9 to 15. Saturday, Oct. 8 at Station #8 in Glenburnie from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m and Saturday, Oct.15 at Station #7 on Woodbine Road from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. A Junior Firefighter Challenge will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is Protect Your Family from Fire.

Kingston Transit Holds Job Fair For Bus Operators. Selected Applicants Will Be Trained On The Job For Licence Upgrades. Kingston Transit is holding a job fair to find 10 to 12 part-time Bus Operators - and it is willing to train the right applicants on the job for licence upgrades. "We want safe, skilled G class-licensed drivers who are people-oriented and who want to build a long-term career with Kingston Transit. This starts as a part-time position with a good wage and benefits, and as we expand our service, it can develop into full-time career," says Jeremy DaCosta, Manager of Kingston Transit. The Job Fair is set for Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express at 11 Benson St. (off Division Street near Highway 401). L’ACFO Mille-Îles is pleased to announce the 15th edition of the Franco-foire (French Services Fair) held on Saturday October 15th 2011. ACFO Mille-Îles is inviting the members of the community, especially the French community to come explore services offered in French in Kingston. This fair will take place from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the School Community Centre located at 711 Dalton Ave, Kingston. ACFO Mille-Îles celebrates its 35th anniversary and it will launch the celebration during the fair. With over 50 exhibitors displaying local organizations and businesses offering services and products in French, the Fair provides a venue for all Francophones and Francophiles in the Thousand Islands Region to gather and discover the French services available in the region. Thanks to the generous contribution of several sponsors, participants will get a chance to win one of many door prizes from draw held throughout the day. The 15th edition will include wine tasting, door prizes, magic show, dance presentation, a children show and activities. On Saturday, October 16th individuals from the financial sector will Curl to help the financial community contribute to the 2011 United Way Campaign.  The Funspiel will get underway at 9:30 a.m. at the Royal Kingston Curling Club, 130 Days Road and will go until 7:00p.m.  The cost is $100 a curler or $400 team.  Fees include lunch and dinner and there are prizes to be won! Those interested in learning about the leasing or licensing of space in City-owned buildings to community groups are invited to an upcoming presentation and discussion of the draft Community Leasing and Licensing Policy. The MacLachlan Woodworking Museum is celebrating the harvest season with the annual PumpkinFest event on Saturday, October 29, from noon to 4 p.m. The first 30 families will get a free pumpkin courtesy of Fruition Farms. Visitors can enter pumpkin carving contests, have their very own wand made by wand-maker Nelson Freedman, and show off their Halloween costumes. Face painting and kids craft activities will also be on hand. All PumpkinFest activities are included in regular Museum admission; $1.25 for children under 12, $3.50 for students or seniors, $4.25 for adults, $9.50 for a family of 6 (2 adults max.).
