Babes for Breasts is a collective of female singer/songwriters taking on the human side of breast cancer one song at a time. Using their voices to raise awareness and funds, every cent will be donated to charities helping women who are living with breast cancer from diagnosis to remission and beyond. Rock-4-Cause is a Kingston, Ontario Canada based promotion that books and promotes live band nights in support of the Joe Chithalen Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library. Joe Chithalen has many friends around the world; you may have seen and heard him play in the popular Irish punk rock band The Mahones; Joe is dearly missed by many. The lending library is a beautiful place which allows children (and adults) the opportunity to take out a wide variety of musical instruments, just like library books, for a week or so. It's a great way to learn to play. Ban Righ Centre Noon Hour Speaker Series, 32 Bader Lane presents What does a Body Convey? Parental Perspectives on Children’s Weight and Health with guest speaker Elaine Power: Professor Kinesiology and Health Studies and Women’s Studies. Amidst the public health concerns about rising rates of overweight and obese children, parents’ fears and worries for their children are seldom heard. This presentation will feature the voices of fifteen parents from south-eastern Ontario, from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, about their children’s weight and health. Leslie will speak about her physical and mental preparation to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and what it took to hike to the top to see the world from above. The mountain gave back to her personally as well as making a difference in the lives of many orphaned children in Tanzania and children here at home. On October 16-18, CFRC 101.9 FM is proud to host the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA) Ontario Regional Conference at Queen's University in Kingston. The conference brings together community radio broadcasters from across the region for two days of skill-sharing and audio entertainment. Highlights will include the performance of a surround-sound radio drama on Friday, October 16 at 8pm in Wallace Hall; a local music showcase featuring Treebot and Cities Turn to Sand on Saturday, October 17 at the Mansion; an FM transmitter-building workshop presented by Toronto's New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) and a panel discussion on Indigenous Land, Language and Radio.From students and community organizers to sound professionals and radio hobbyists, the conference offers something to everyone. Celebrate Halloween At Family-Friendly Pumpkinfest. Candlemaking, harvest crafts, pumpkin carving as well as "shake in your boots" storytelling and spooky science are some of the highlights to enjoyed at the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum's Pumpkinfest. Nelson Freedman from the Kingston Woodturners will be demonstrating his skill by making magic wands. And, back by popular demand, children's entertainer Gerry Mitchell will be celebrating with songs about the harvest season. This family-friendly event runs from noon until 4pm on Halloween day, and is an excellent, safe choice for kids and parents to enjoy the spooky spirit of Halloween. Everyone is welcome to come in costume! The MacLachlan Woodworking Museum's scenic location along the river provides a beautiful fall-coloured backdrop to this annual event, now in its 9th year. Annabelle Girard, the Museum's Programme Coordinator, describes the event: "This is a wonderful family event to celebrate the fall harvest. Lots of hands-on activities for all ages. It's always great fun!" Rain or shine, on Saturday, October 31, from 12-4 p.m. It's only $9.00 per family, or $4.00 for adults and $1 for children.
