Come and experience the History of Health Care at the Museum of Health Care at Kingston inside the Ann Baillie Building, 32 George Street. The Museum of Health Care offers a one-hour program and tour for people to see its work firsthand. Groups are welcome. The free Fall Leisure Showcase also features more than 80 exhibitors, Just Try It! sample classes, and free skating at the INVISTA Centre at 1350 Gardiners Rd. on Friday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 to 2 p.m. Demonstrations by gymnasts, fencers, dancers, martial arts specialists, cheerleaders, trampoline and BMX enthusiasts will be interspersed with Just Try It! classes allowing participants to taste-test many of activities demonstrated. A sign-language interpreter will be available from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Free Well and Septic Information Session Sept. 19, 2009 at the Tamworth Arena starting at 9am. Under the Well Aware program, Hearthmakers Energy Cooperative is partnering with the Beaver Lake Preservation Association to bring you a free information session on wells and septic systems. If you own a rural property, this is information you need to know. Local experts will cover topics like well construction and maintenance, groundwater, water testing, and septic systems. Speakers include Mark Boone, P. Geo, Hydrogeologist, Quinte Conservation Authority, William Vander Wilp, MSc, MacLellan Water Technology, licensed assistant well technician and level one water operator and Corey Shea, Part Owner/Operations Manager, Shea Construction, and member of the Ontario Onsite Wastewater Association. The Canadian Hearing Society invites you to learn more about this rich, expressive language and the proud heritage of the Deaf Community. American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual language comprised of specific gestures (signs), hand shapes and facial expression.  ASL has its own unique grammatical rules and sentence structure. September 23, 2009:
Ban Righ Centre Noon Hour Speaker Series, 32 Bader Lane presents Children of the Greeks?  Kalash Kafirs of the Hindu Kush with guest speaker Sylvat Aziz: Professor, Fine Art Dep’t. The Kalasha comprise small communities in 3 valleys off Chitral, almost inaccessible in the north western Himalayan reaches of Pakistan. These communities are a study in endangered species with about 3000 of them left and their culture on the verge of vanishing.  They claim to be descendants from Alexander's armies that passed through these valleys a couple of thousand years ago. Kingston WritersFest has a new look, a new venue, and a stellar lineup for 2009. Margaret Atwood's astounding dramatic and musical launch and continues with some of the best writers working in Canada today - recent award-winners and the must-reads of tomorrow. There are day-time Master Classes, too, for both seasoned writers and those just getting started. We've posted a sampling of our Onstage Events, Master Classes, and author profiles. The festival starts with a bang on Wednesday, September 23, with the gala launch of Margaret Atwood's newest novel, The Year of the Flood. As usual Ms. Atwood has something special in store: a musical performance featuring local singers and actors in a dramatic presentation written and narrated by Atwood herself. Tickets to this event are only $16 in advance, or $18 at the door. United Way Puts Out Call for Grant Applications. One-Time Capacity Building Grants are open to charitable community organizations, both member and non-member agencies. Collaborative Grants are for programs and services providing unique, collaborative solutions to local issues, and may also be awarded to agencies for bridge funding or assistance with emergency situations. Priority Needs Grants are available to agencies with pressing needs that match United Way’s identified priority areas: Children and Youth at Risk, The Impact of Poverty and Isolation, Homelessness and Inadequate Housing, Seasonal needs such as winter warmth and summer food programs.
