| Smiths Falls is named for
Thomas Smyth, a United Empire Loyalist who in 1786 was granted 400 acres
in what is present-day Smiths Falls and the rest is history! The Heritage
House Museum, also known as the Ward House, is on the Canadian Register
of Historic Places. This thriving town in South Eastern Ontario is nearing
a population of 9,000. The Rideau Canal waterway locks in three locations
in the town with four separate locks and a combined lift of over fifty
feet. The town has deep roots and rich history in the growth of Eastern
Ontario including grist mills and turn of the century railway transportation
and building. Must see destinations include the Heritage House Museum,
Rideau Canal Museum, and Railway Museum. The outdoors in the region are
